More photos from the 2019 Summer Trip

This is a "lightly curated", marginally-organized, broadly-categorized, "dump" of photos I took with my phone during our 2019 Summer Trip.

The categories are: Mount Rainier, The Seattle Skyline, Photos from a Ferry, Photos of Betsy Taking Photos and Mascot Photos.

I also took a ton of selfies, but I'll save those for (possibly) a future post.

Note: There are lots of photos in this post. If you double-click on the first photo you should be able to view them in a slide show.

Mount Rainier Photos

After several weeks in Washington we finally got our first glimpse of Mt. Rainier from the window of a trolley in Seattle.

That same day the mountain was still "out" as our ferry left Seattle, bound for Bremerton.

The mountain's in the middle of the photo.

Same photo but zoomed in.

You will have to look closely to find the mountain in this photo, taken in Port Townsend, Washington northwest of Seattle.
As this photo suggests, Gig Harbor is much closer to Mt. Rainier than Port Townsend. We had been in Gig Harbor for more than two weeks when the "mountain came out". It was a bit of a shock because, until then, we were not even aware Mt. Rainier was visible from the harbor area.

Betsy's shirt choice for her first ever visit to Mt. Rainier National Park was no accident.

The view of the mountain from the parking lot of the IGA in Packwood, Washington.

Seattle Skyline Photos

There's no doubt about it, the best place to get a photo of the Seattle skyline is from the deck of a ferry. The Walla Walla is one of the two ferries we used this summer for our "commute" into the city from Bremerton.

For a little variety here is a photo taken at Alki Beach in West Seattle. Downtown Seattle is in the distance (look for the Space Needle in the upper right quadrant of the photo).

This photo taken in West Seattle is a pretty close approximation of the photo we used for our 2002 Christmas card (except that we are older and a certain someone is missing from the photo).
This photo was taken at Gas Works Park on the north shore of Lake Union.

This is one of my favorite photos from the entire trip.

(More) Photos from a Ferry

We loved riding the Washington State Ferries and this was our very first trip of the summer, from Anacortes to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island aboard the Elwah.

Photos of Betsy Taking Photos

Appearances can be deceiving, Betsy is not taking a photo of Mt. Rainier. She's standing on a dock in beautiful Port Townsend, Washington and the snow capped volcano in the distance is Mt. Adams.

This is Mt. Rainier.

The backdrop for this family photo is the dammed up Green River in Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area in the northeast corner of Utah.

The attraction here is the Diablo Lake (created by a dam on the Skagit River) Overlook on Washington's State Highway 20 in the Ross Lake National Recreation Area.

Same place, same group, different angle.

I was a little late getting the camera out for this one. Betsy's handing the camera back to this couple after taking their photo in the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park near Forks, Washington.

Mascot Photos

Mariner Moose, mascot of the Seattle Mariners.

Webbly is the mascot for the Everett AquaSox.

Rhubarb the Reindeer, is the mascot for the Tacoma Rainiers.

Last year the Rainiers had a promotional stunt with a saxophone-playing gorilla on the roof of Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. Following up on a complaint, the team was later fined for safety violations. That prompted the team to create this "inspector mascot" to spoof the matter. I was the only person in the stadium cheering for the guy.
